I'll find out as I dive deeper into working on the move cards.

I'd also have to do some conversion when consolidating. But this isn't a concern for the design - it'd just be a concern for eating into the limited time I have. But, hey, as Shigeru Miyamoto says: A delayed game is eventually good. A bad game is bad forever.

Lastly, for pokemon types, I will ensure that the drafters never need to consult a chart when a move is used on a pokemon. Every single pokemon will have their weaknesses, resistances, & immunities for their specific pokemon type combination (even if they're Fire/Flying) printed on their card. So, Charizard will say he's weak to water, super weak to rock, resistant to fire, and immune to ground, etc.

However, some chart consulting might still be yearned for when players are drafting and constructing their teams and moves, to ensure they have type coverage in their attacks and weakness minimization across their team.

Removing secondary types altogether might get a little weird for certain pokemon. Is a Weedle a Bug or a Poison type? Does Charizard still fly? And it might be confusing to those used to pokemon battling. I'd rather leave the types as is. And this would also include how the weaknesses, resistances, & immunities are mapped out. I don't want someone to have to re-consult a chart to find out how the new lay of the land is when they already know pokemon types.

Thanks for the thought-chewing!bradleyrosehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05284973109981113059noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1195539283239638111.post-87647354856323560882016-11-06T11:30:23.892-08:002016-11-06T11:30:23.892-08:00I think having four rounds of drafting might be th...I think having four rounds of drafting might be the solution. Pokemon drafted in each direction and moves drafted in each direction. Three would have to be the minimum so that you can take advantage of understanding the signals in draft. Not only is having three or more rounds important in this manner, it also might be necessary for the sheer amount of move cards that would need to be processed by the drafter's brain right at the beginning of the round.

Short answer is:
- Pokemon and moves drafted separately
- At least three rounds of drafting, probably four

Thanks for being behind me all the way on this, Adam! =) If I finish this, then perhaps we can play it next time we're around each other!bradleyrosehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05284973109981113059noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1195539283239638111.post-73634183977910379042016-11-03T13:01:43.856-07:002016-11-03T13:01:43.856-07:00I think having only three stats will be good enoug...I think having only three stats will be good enough. You can give pokemon that generally have high defense higher HP instead. It's easy to combine them. AT DF and HP should be enough to make a good game.

How are you doing type weaknesses? From what I recall, the card game oversimplifies the type matchups. Maybe have a more complex system than the TCG, but less than the VG. Like, each type is strong against only one and weak against only one, and maybe removing secondary types altogether.

Just a thought. One for Pokes and one for moves? I will be behind you all the way on this. Adam Victor Kleshhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04914885683711617242noreply@blogger.com
