Daily Card Redesign is a daily Magic: The Gathering design exercise where I randomly choose a card for the scenario of it being killed late during its own set's development. I design a replacement card that uses the same art, is the same color, is the same rarity, and has a name that, alphabetically, keeps it within the same collector number for the set.
Redesign:
Like
Soul's Fire, only cheaper and with more restrictions. Because it's hard to compete with
Lightning Bolt in
Alpha, I had to do direct damage that is either variable (like
Fireball,
Disintegrate, and
Earthquake were doing in the same set) or have an added benefit (like making it into a cantrip).
For some reason, this is one of my favorite red effects. Iunno why, but Soul's Fire is a favorite card of mine. (:
ReplyDeleteAnyway, to card: this is pretty good removal and red, but I think its restriction and variability keep it balanced. Sorcery is definitely the right call. Nice work.!
